Join us for a four-day adventure exploring the rugged beauty of the west coast of Scotland. This immersive experience combines sailing, swimming, and walking, allowing you to uncover the historical and natural wonders of the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Dàl Riada. From remote anchorages to cultural insights, this mini adventure offers a unique opportunity to engage with Scotland's amazing coastline and rich heritage.
Your journey begins at North Pier in Oban, conveniently located near the railway station. After meeting the crew and receiving a safety briefing, you'll set sail to your first anchorage, allowing time to settle into your floating home.
Each day will be filled with exploration, starting with guided swims in crystal-clear waters and invigorating walks along the coast. Dan, your experienced swim and cultural guide, will enrich your experience with local myths, legends, and insights into Gaelic culture. As you sail from one scenic location to another, you'll have the chance to absorb the beauty of the Earra-Ghàidheal Coast and discover hidden gems.
Evenings are a time for relaxation and reflection, perhaps with a hot chocolate or dram in hand as you recount the day's adventures under a starlit sky. Your itinerary is flexible, adapting to weather conditions and ensuring a memorable experience tailored to the beauty of each destination.
The adventure begins at North Pier in Oban, a charming town on the west coast of Scotland. Oban is accessible by train and bus, with secure long-term parking options available.
This location serves as a perfect gateway to explore the stunning coastline and islands of the ancient Gaelic kingdom.
You will stay aboard a well-equipped sailing vessel, providing comfort and shelter during your adventure.
The boat offers a cosy and practical living space, ensuring a pleasant stay as you sail through Scotland's beautiful seascapes.
Participants should have a basic level of fitness and be comfortable with sailing and swimming. No prior sailing experience is necessary, but a willingness to engage in outdoor activities and adapt to variable weather conditions is essential.
Ensure you have suitable clothing and gear for varying weather conditions typical of the West Coast of Scotland.
We pride ourselves on offering a unique blend of adventure and cultural enrichment. Our experienced team, deeply rooted in the local community, ensures an authentic experience with a focus on sustainability and respect for the environment.
We aim to provide a friendly, personal touch, making each trip feel like an experience shared with friends. With a commitment to safety, comfort, and cultural immersion, we offer an unparalleled exploration of Scotland's gorgeous west coast.
You should pack appropriate clothing for the time of year and the unpredictable weather typical of the West Coast of Scotland. We recommend layering with lightweight, quick-drying fabrics. Essential items include a good-quality waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, warm clothing, and comfortable shoes suitable for walking.
Additionally, bring swimwear, a hat, gloves, and a personal water bottle. If you prefer, you can also hire quality sailing wet weather gear from us; please let us know in advance if this is needed.
We cater for both meat-eating and vegetarian diets. For other dietary needs, such as vegan or gluten-free options, please check with us before booking.
If you have food allergies, be sure to include these on your medical form. We’ll do our best to accommodate food preferences, but please understand that space on board is limited.
While we can prepare nut-free or gluten-free meals, the boat itself is not a nut-free or gluten-free zone.
Seasickness can occur, especially on the first day or in rough conditions. If you start to feel unwell, inform a crew member so we can assist you, particularly if you are taking medication.
Steering the boat often helps, as it allows your eyes and inner ear to sync, similar to how driving a car prevents motion sickness. For most people, the sensation passes within a few hours, aided by a hot drink, a ginger biscuit, and some rest.
We’ll provide you with a kit list once you’ve booked. Essential items include layers, hats, and waterproof footwear with good grip. Beach landings may require wellies or waterproof shoes.
High-quality sailing waterproofs are not necessary; a standard waterproof jacket and trousers will suffice.
Please pack your items in soft, foldable bags, as storage space is limited and cannot accommodate hard cases. All safety equipment, including lifejackets and safety lines, is provided.
We strongly recommend taking out holiday insurance that covers all eventualities, including sailing.
Our holidays are fully catered, so you’re not required to cook unless you’d like to try your hand at it. Cooking onboard can be a unique experience, especially at sea, and some guests enjoy participating.
The skipper and crew prepare all meals, but you’re welcome to join in if you wish. Otherwise, just relax and take in the views with a glass of wine.
Please note, we do operate a rota for washing up, so everyone is expected to pitch in as part of the team experience.
There is no upper age limit. We simply ask that you consider your physical capabilities. Agility tends to be more important than physical strength.
All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
No experience is necessary! We welcome guests of all skill levels, from complete beginners to seasoned sailors. Our fully-qualified skipper is also a sailing instructor who enjoys teaching and sharing knowledge. Many guests like to get involved in the sailing activities, learning in a relaxed and informal environment without the pressure of a formal course.
However, if you prefer to relax, you’re welcome to simply sit back and enjoy the scenery while the fully crewed boat handles everything.
We partner with Rewilding Britain to help protect our natural spaces for future adventures.
