This four or five-day course provides a guided adventure across the Black Cuillin Ridge, designed for those who want to tackle the 11 Munros that make up the ridge. Offering flexibility in timing, participants can choose between a four-day course for those ready for an intense challenge or a five-day option for those looking to spread out the workload and take breaks as needed.
This course takes you across the dramatic Black Cuillin Ridge, featuring 11 Munros. Over four or five days, you’ll work with expert guides to summit each peak, with plenty of time to develop skills in scrambling and technical climbing along the way.
If you're on the four-day course, each day will focus on a set of Munros, while the five-day version allows a more relaxed pace with a day of rest or weather adjustment in between. The guides will ensure you are safe throughout the more technical parts, offering expert advice and roping you up on the more exposed sections.
The Black Cuillin Ridge is located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, one of the UK's most challenging mountain ranges. This area is renowned for its sharp peaks, rocky ridges, and unpredictable weather, which can vary from sunshine to storms within the same day.
Due to its exposure and technical climbs, it’s recommended to allow extra time to succeed, particularly if staying on Skye for a week for better weather chances.
To participate, you’ll need to be in good physical condition, as the course involves long days with significant ascents and descents. Experience in scrambling is helpful but not mandatory, as training can be provided.
It's essential that you have a strong base fitness, as the mountains rise from sea level, and your legs will be put to the test. While prior roped climbing experience isn't required, a positive attitude and good stamina are vital to tackling the terrain and long days.
The guiding company was founded in 2003 with a focus on providing fun, adventurous outdoor activities. Their guiding team is led by a Mountain Instructor with years of experience in the mountains, having completed numerous challenging climbs and expeditions across the globe. Their approach combines safety with enjoyment, ensuring that participants not only conquer their goals but also learn valuable skills along the way.
With a personal commitment to the outdoors and years of mountain experience, the instructors bring a wealth of knowledge to every course. Working closely with trusted brands like Patagonia, Black Diamond, and Pacerpoles, they ensure participants have the best equipment for the terrain. The guides are dedicated to making sure you have a safe, enjoyable experience while achieving your goal of summiting the Munros.
Participants should have a good level of fitness as the days are long and physically demanding, involving significant ascents and descents.
The course requires stamina and strength, as the mountains rise from sea level, and you'll need to be prepared for multiple hours of scrambling each day. Ideally, you should be at a Silver level of fitness, with previous scrambling experience being beneficial, though not essential.
While no roped climbing experience is required, previous scrambling experience is useful. Some of the sections of the Cuillin Ridge are technically challenging, and the course involves rope work for safety on exposed areas.
If you're new to scrambling, training can be provided before the course starts to ensure you are comfortable on the terrain.
Yes, previous technical climbing experience is not required for this course. The guides will provide all the necessary instruction on the use of ropes and climbing techniques.
They’ll ensure your safety during more challenging sections and offer tips on tackling difficult terrain, so all you need is a positive attitude and a good level of fitness.
The weather on the Cuillin Ridge can be unpredictable, and while we plan for the best conditions, flexibility is key. If the weather is not suitable for certain sections, your guide will adjust the itinerary to ensure safety and still provide an enjoyable experience.
For the five-day course, there’s added flexibility with a “rest day” built into the schedule to accommodate bad weather or to recover if needed.
Accommodation is not included in the course price. However, there are several recommended options near the Isle of Skye, including the Sligachan Hotel, Glenbrittle Campsite, and the Waterfront Bunkhouse in Carbost.
You’ll need to book your own accommodation, but we can recommend more options based on your preferences if needed.
The five-day course follows the same itinerary as the four-day course but allows for an extra day of flexibility. This additional day can be used as a rest day if needed or to adjust the itinerary due to weather conditions.
It’s perfect for those who want a slightly more relaxed pace or extra time to rest and recover between the more demanding days.
