Climbing The Old Man of Stoer is an unforgettable challenge for those with a keen sense of adventure. This iconic 60m sea stack, located off the rugged northwest coast of Scotland, is famous not only for its imposing presence but also for the exciting approach to the climb. Reaching the top involves crossing a sea channel via a Tyrolean traverse and navigating a climb with history dating back to 1966.
Your adventure begins with the Tyrolean traverse across a sea channel, an exciting challenge in itself. At low tide, you’ll have the opportunity to boulder hop across to the stack. The climb itself is broken into four pitches and will likely include additional pitches depending on the group and conditions. Throughout the two-day experience, you'll receive guidance on climbing techniques, safety, and ropework.
The second day is reserved for the climb itself, with plenty of time for a final check of the weather conditions and a chance to take in the amazing views from the top. After reaching the summit, you'll abseil back down to the base of the sea stack. Throughout the climb, you'll be surrounded by amazing wildlife and the ever-changing Scottish landscape.
