Welcome to our Half-Day Foraging Course, a delightful opportunity to reconnect with nature and discover the edible treasures hidden in the wild. I’m Adele, and along with my trusty dog, Lis, we’ll guide you through a leisurely exploration of the natural world. Whether you’re new to foraging or looking to deepen your knowledge, this course offers a warm, welcoming environment where everyone can learn and enjoy the wonders of foraging.
Our half-day forage is a slow-paced, sensory-rich experience. We’ll stroll through the local landscape, pausing to observe and interact with the natural environment. You’ll learn to identify a variety of plants, fungi, and trees, using all your senses—sight, smell, touch, and taste. The aim is to deepen your connection to nature, leaving you with new skills and a sense of wonder at the edible world that surrounds us.
We begin our journey at The Angel Hotel in Abergavenny, a charming town on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. This area offers a rich diversity of plant life, making it an ideal setting for a foraging adventure. The exact route varies depending on the season and what’s available in the landscape, ensuring each session is unique.
No prior foraging experience is needed! This course is suitable for all ages and abilities, from families with young children to seasoned nature enthusiasts. The route is gentle and accessible, with considerations made for wheelchair users if necessary.
We offer more than just a course—we provide a personal, intimate experience rooted in a deep love for nature. Our small, family-run operation ensures that every participant receives individual attention and care. With years of experience and a passion for sharing the joys of foraging, I’m dedicated to making sure your time with us is both educational and enjoyable. Join us to explore, learn, and reconnect with the natural world in a way that’s both fun and meaningful.
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy walking shoes or boots. Layers are recommended, as weather in the Brecon Beacons can be unpredictable. A waterproof jacket is advisable, even if the forecast looks dry. Don’t forget a hat and gloves if it’s chilly, and sunscreen or a hat if it’s sunny.
No special tools or equipment are needed for this course. However, if you’d like to bring a small basket or reusable bag for any samples you collect, feel free to do so. A notebook and pen might be handy for jotting down notes, and a camera or smartphone can help you document your finds.
Foraging can be a wonderful experience in all types of weather, but if conditions are unsafe (e.g., heavy storms), the course may be postponed. We’ll notify you in advance if there are any changes due to weather. If it’s just a bit of rain, the course will go ahead, so please come prepared.
Absolutely! Children are more than welcome, and one child per paying adult can attend for free. The course is designed to be engaging for all ages, making it a great family activity. Please note, the terrain may include uneven ground, so younger children should be supervised closely.
While Lis, my dog, will be joining us on the forage, we ask that participants do not bring their own dogs. This helps ensure the safety and comfort of all participants, as well as the wildlife we’ll be encountering.
Your £35.00 fee includes a guided foraging walk with expert instruction, opportunities to sample wild edibles, and the chance to learn about the local flora and fauna. Children attend for free, with one free child per paying adult, though we’re flexible about this if you have more than one child.
The course is designed to be leisurely and suitable for most fitness levels. We’ll cover a relatively short distance at a slow pace, focusing on observation rather than mileage. If you have specific mobility concerns, please let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
Yes! We can run bespoke sessions at a time of your choosing for £40 per person. We ask that you are a group of 4+ people.
We partner with Rewilding Britain to help protect our natural spaces for future adventures.
