Upon arrival, you'll take a short walk from the parking area to our lakeside hire centre, where your chosen paddle equipment awaits. This is a self-guided experience—simply collect your kayak, paddleboard, or canoe and enjoy the water. Paddle at your own pace, explore the lake, and take in the beautiful surroundings. As this is a pure equipment hire, there is no formal instruction provided. However, if you’re new to paddle sports or feel more comfortable with guidance, we offer paddleboarding lessons separately.
Our hire centre is based on the scenic Hope Lake within Park in the Past in Wrexham. This natural location provides a safe and quiet environment, ideal for families, friends, or solo paddlers. Participants can also take advantage of the park’s other amenities if they wish to spend more time on-site.
Minimum age 3 years old (with parent/guardian on the water for under-12s).
We recommend comfortable clothing and bringing a change of clothes. Wetsuits are optional but not provided. A limited number are available for hire, along with waterproof tops and bottoms for kayaking.

No prior experience is needed to enjoy a session on the lake! This is a self-guided activity, so you can paddle at your own pace. If you’re new to paddle sports and would like some guidance, we offer paddleboarding lessons separately.
All the essential equipment is provided, including your chosen kayak, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), or canoe, along with a paddle and personal flotation device (PFD) for safety.
If you wish to swim please bring a tow float, we have limited number available for hire
Yes, the minimum age is 3 years. Children under 12 must be accompanied on the water by an adult to ensure safety. All under 18's must have and adult on site and remain in view at all times.
We recommend comfortable, warm clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit wet. Bringing a change of clothes is a good idea, just in case. Wetsuits are optional but available for hire if needed, along with waterproof tops and bottoms for kayaking.
Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your start time. This allows ample time to check in, get fitted with equipment, and receive a quick safety briefing before heading out on the water.
Yes, you can stay and explore Park in the Past after your session, The park offers walking trails, wild swimming and other amenities, making it a lovely spot to extend your day out. There is also on site now a sauna facility run by Sauna Cwtch
Our hire sessions proceed rain or shine, as long as it’s safe to be on the water. If weather conditions become unsafe, we’ll contact you in advance to reschedule or refund your booking.
