PSAI Closed Circuit Rebreather Up To 100m

Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) diving offers a unique and advanced approach to underwater exploration. CCR systems recycle exhaled gas, removing carbon dioxide and replenishing oxygen, allowing for longer and more efficient dives. The choice between air diluent and mixed gas (trimix, heliair, or heliox) in CCR diving depends on the dive's depth and purpose. Air diluent is generally used for shallower dives, while mixed gas is preferred for deeper, technical dives due to its ability to reduce narcosis and oxygen toxicity risks. Scott offers a sequential series of CCR diving courses across UK.

Course Sequence and Overview

The courses are designed to progress divers through various levels of CCR diving proficiency:

1. PSAI Sport Rebreather Diver:

Utilizes 100% oxygen in Closed Circuit Rebreathers.
Training depth limited to a maximum of 30 meters.
Focused on sport diving activities without decompression.

2. PSAI Advanced Rebreather Diver (Decompression Diving):

Suitable for divers using Closed Circuit Rebreathers with air diluent for decompression diving.
Depth qualification up to 40 meters, with correct decompression skills.
Prerequisites: divers must have completed the Accelerated Decompression Procedures course

3. PSAI Fundamentals Closed Circuit Rebreather Diver (60 Meters):

Designed for divers using Closed Circuit Rebreathers with trimix diluent.
Extends diving capabilities to 60 meters.
Focuses on the fundamental skills for mixed gas diving.

4. PSAI Explorer Closed Circuit Rebreather Diver (100 Meters):

For divers advancing to Closed Circuit Rebreathers with trimix, heliair, or heliox diluent.
Maximum depth of 100 meters.
Explores more complex aspects of mixed gas CCR diving.

Location

Courses are conducted at various dive sites across UK, offering diverse underwater environments suitable for all levels of CCR training.

Why Learn CCR

These courses provide a structured pathway for divers to master CCR diving, from basic sport level to advanced technical diving. Each course builds upon the skills and knowledge from the previous one, ensuring a comprehensive and safe learning experience. For more information or to book a course, divers should directly contact the course provider.

Air diluent in CCR diving is typically used for shallower dives and involves a mixture of normal breathing air. In contrast, mixed gas (such as trimix, heliair, or heliox) is used for deeper dives. It reduces narcosis and oxygen toxicity risks, making it suitable for technical dives beyond recreational dive limits.

No, these courses are designed to be sequential for safety and skill progression. You need to start with the PSAI Sport Rebreather Diver course, especially if you have no prior experience with CCR diving, and then progress through the advanced levels.

It is recommended that you have your own equipment for technical diving, however, we can hire out the equipment needed at an extra cost.

A premier dive centre, offering an exceptional learning experience for divers, especiallty those interested in advanced and technical diving. The centre's foundation is rooted in the experience and passion of its founder, Scott, who began diving at just 10 years old. His journey took him from his first dive in the Caribbean to the rich waters of Scotland and, eventually, to Norfolk in England. Scott's expertise was shaped by his extensive training with the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC). His diving interests evolved over the years, delving into technical diving in 2001 and earning Technical Instructor qualifications with PSAI. A particular enthusiast of Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) diving since 2011, Scott brings this advanced knowledge to his students. Clare, Scott’s partner, equally shares a passion for diving. She is currently exploring extended-range diving, with a keen interest in Mexico's caverns and the seals of the Farne Islands. As a qualified British Divers Marine Mammal Medic, Clare also contributes to marine conservation, particularly in rescuing seals along the Norfolk coast. The combination of Scott and Clare’s expertise, enthusiasm, and commitment to marine conservation offers a unique and enriching learning environment for all divers.
