We had a great experience, Justin is a brilliant, easy going instructor who explains things clearly and makes it fun, whilst feeling safe. We now feel equipped to head out as a family with our own paddleboard.

The trip begins in Chester, where the group meets for introductions, kit issue and a full safety briefing. The morning focuses on getting everyone comfortable with their kayak, covering basic paddling technique, steering, launching and landing.
The first paddle follows the River Dee, moving from calmer inland water into the wider estuary. This is a steady introduction day, allowing time to practise skills, settle into the boats and adjust to tidal movement without pressure.
Distance is kept manageable, with regular breaks and time to take in the landscape. By mid to late afternoon, a suitable coastal campsite is reached near the estuary. Camp is set up together, followed by a shared evening meal and a review of the day, including plans and conditions for Day 2.
After breakfast and breaking camp, the group launches for the first full coastal day. The route moves westwards along the North Wales shoreline, with the exact line chosen based on tide, wind and sea state.
This day introduces more open water paddling while still using sheltered sections where possible. The group practises coastal awareness skills such as route choice, timing landings, and reading conditions. Lunch is taken ashore on a beach or sheltered landing spot.
By late afternoon, another coastal campsite is reached. The evening is relaxed, with time to rest, explore locally on foot, and enjoy a shared meal.
Day 3 is the most immersive paddling day, linking quieter stretches of coastline, beaches and headlands. The route continues west, with varied scenery and opportunities to spot seabirds and marine life.
The pace is steady rather than fast, with time built in for short stops, photography and skills development such as efficient paddling, group management and landing in different conditions.
Camp is made at a new coastal location for the final night. The evening is unhurried, with time to reflect on the journey so far and enjoy the sense of travelling the coast by kayak.
On the final morning, camp is packed up and the group sets off for the last stretch of paddling. This section offers new perspectives on the coastline and a chance to consolidate skills developed over the previous days.
The trip finishes at a planned coastal endpoint by early to mid-afternoon. After unloading and cleaning equipment, there’s time for a final debrief, questions, and onward travel arrangements before the group heads home.

Neil was great…guided us clearly and encouraged us before, during and after. We felt safe and confident due to his presence and had a really enjoyable time. We were a bit nervous at first but are so glad that we did it. What a fantastic experience.
My instructor was Tom, he was extremely good, made us feel safe and the experience very enjoyable. Would definitely use again
Justin of Mountain Memories was a fantastic guide. Very friendly and easy going. Plenty of stories to tell whilst we canoed - absolutely fantastic.
