Yes, you will need to bring your own white water paddling equipment, including a kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet, spray deck, and any other personal gear. This course involves extensive on-water sessions, so your kit should be in good condition and appropriate for advanced white water paddling.
Unlike traditional one-day assessments, the assessment process on this course is spread across the week. You will be assessed informally throughout the course, allowing you to demonstrate your coaching skills in a more natural setting. By the end of day 4, we will inform you if you are ready to take the formal Paddle UK Advanced The formal assessment, which is optional, can be taken for a discounted fee of £200.
You will receive ongoing feedback throughout the course from Andrew and the team. This daily feedback will help you understand where you're excelling and which areas need improvement. The aim is to provide constructive and detailed input to support your growth as a coach. The informal assessment process ensures you receive real-time feedback without the pressure of a single assessment day.
Each day typically runs from 9am to 5am, with a combination of classroom-based learning, on-water coaching sessions, and feedback discussions. The focus is on practical application, so expect to spend the majority of the day on the water, coaching others and refining your own skills. The exact schedule will vary depending on conditions, but you can expect a full day of learning and development each day.
Safety is our top priority. We will monitor weather and river conditions throughout the week, and if any conditions are unsuitable for the planned activities, we will move to alternative locations or adapt the training to ensure a safe learning environment. Our team has extensive experience in dealing with changing conditions, so rest assured that your training will still be valuable and effective, even if the weather doesn't cooperate.
No, the formal Paddle UK Advanced White Water Coach Assessment is optional. If you feel ready by the end of the course, you can take the assessment at a discounted rate of £200. If you're not quite ready or prefer more time to practice, you can return to take the assessment at a later date.
No, accommodation is not included in the course fee. However, we can assist with organising shared accommodation options with other participants, such as local bunkhouses or lodges. Alternatively, you are welcome to arrange your own lodging. Please let us know if you need recommendations for accommodation near the course location.
Yes, you will need to bring your own packed lunches, snacks, and water for each day. While there may be some opportunities to purchase food locally, it’s recommended that you come prepared for long days on the water. Staying hydrated and energised is essential for maintaining focus and performing well during the course.
You’ll receive comprehensive support from Andrew and our team of experienced coaches throughout the week. In addition to daily feedback, we will work with you to refine your coaching techniques, address any challenges, and ensure you feel confident in your ability to coach in advanced white water environments. Our goal is to help you reach your full potential, whether you're working towards the assessment or just looking to enhance your coaching skills.
