The BC Paddle Awards are for those getting into a boat for the first time, enabling them to feel confident in their chosen craft in a sheltered water environment. The awards help empower the paddler, enabling them to start their lifelong journey into paddlesport.
From Cardiff, you can take a train from Cardiff Central Station to Barry Island Station. Trains run regularly and the journey typically takes around 30 minutes.
The BC Paddle Start course is suitable for beginners who are new to paddlesport and want to learn the fundamental skills necessary for a safe and enjoyable experience on the water.
The course is based at Barry Dock 1 in Wales, offering safe and sheltered waters for your paddling sessions.
The course fee includes all the necessary equipment, including wetsuit hire, buoyancy aid hire, watercraft and paddle hire, as well as access to free parking and changing facilities.
Participants are required to bring suitable rubber sole footwear for use on docks and the pontoon. Neoprene wetsuit boots are not recommended. Please ensure you have appropriate footwear to ensure your safety.
The session is typically 4 hours long.
After completing this course, you'll have gained the foundational skills and knowledge to enjoy paddlesport safely. You can explore further opportunities in paddlesport, such as progressing to the Paddle Discover Award.
