This year-round family-oriented excursion is perfect for all ages, starting from 4 years old, starting with a canoe tour around St Mary's Loch and finishing with marshmallow toasting and hot chocolate around a fire pit.
Your adventure begins with a leisurely paddle around the tranquil waters of St Mary's Loch. You will see the scenic beauty of the Scottish Borders, the loch’s tranquil waters reflecting the sky, surrounded by rolling hills and possibly spotting local wildlife along the shoreline. It’s a peaceful retreat into nature.
After exploring the loch’s beauty, we’ll return to shore to kindle a fire pit, toast marshmallows, and enjoy steaming cups of hot chocolate, creating memories that warm both the hands and heart.
This is the perfect family day out, all year round. We think the hot chocolate and marshmallows are most rewarding on a cold autumn or winter day!
St Mary's Loch, nestled in the majestic landscape of the Scottish Borders, provides a serene setting for our canoeing escapade.
We will send you a precise meeting point upon booking, and we can tailor the precise meeting point to your group if needed. Generally, we meet opposite the Glen Cafe.
No prior canoeing experience is needed, making this activity ideal for beginners and families. Participants should be prepared to wear clothing that can get wet and bring along a change of clothes for comfort post-paddle.
As seasoned outdoor activity providers based in the Tweed Valley, we're dedicated to offering tailored experiences that align with your interests and abilities. Our activities span across Scotland, guaranteeing an unparalleled adventure wherever you are. Safety is our priority, ensuring a delightful and secure experience for everyone, whether you're looking for a single-day escape or a full week of adventure immersion. Choose us for the perfect day out.
We recommend old clothing/trainers that you’re happy to get a little wet. We also recommend a spare change of clothes, just in case! We also recommend you wear waterproofs. Please bring any snacks and refreshments you might want along the way.
We provide 30-litre dry barrels between two to keep your things dry, and provide all of the canoeing and safety equipment.
As we run this trip over winter, make sure you wrap up warm - think hat, gloves, scarf, etc.!
Generally, two people would normally share a boat. However, with kids, you can comfortably paddle three to each Canadian Canoe.
This trip is open to almost everyone, as your group must all be aged 4+ to take part.
We will always try to give as much notice as possible if an activity can’t go ahead. It could be the river is too high for canoeing or we are expecting weather warnings for wind. Sometimes things are out of our control and we may have to cancel with very short notice. In all cases, we will try to offer an alternative activity or location. In the event of a canceled activity by us, you will be refunded if we cannot find a suitable alternative date/time/activity for your group.
However, it’s worth saying that we will only cancel in the event that it is unsafe to paddle. A bit of drizzle won’t stop us! Please assume the trip is going ahead unless we contact you to say otherwise. The vast majority of our trips go ahead as planned, come rain or shine!
Oh, and you will have your steaming cup of hot chocolate to reward you at the end of a chilly paddle!
