Take on Moel Siabod's 872m summit on this circular route from Capel Curig, featuring the beginner-friendly Daear Ddu scramble. This Grade 1 ridge scramble is an optional challenge, allowing you to enjoy the route with or without exposure to more technical terrain. The walk also passes through an old quarry before descending along the north-east ridge. Even at the summit, the route remains quiet, offering uninterrupted views across the Glyderau and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) on a clear day.
Starting in Capel Curig, the route begins with a steady ascent, gradually gaining height as we approach the south-east side of Moel Siabod. Along the way, we'll pass through the remains of a disused quarry before reaching the base of the Daear Ddu Ridge. This Grade 1 scramble is a fantastic introduction for those new to scrambling, with plenty of options to take an easier line or avoid exposure altogether.
After reaching the summit at 872m, we’ll pause to take in the panoramic views before descending via the north-east ridge. This section follows a defined path with varied terrain, leading us back towards Capel Curig. Depending on conditions, underfoot terrain can be rocky, uneven, and occasionally wet or boggy, so sturdy footwear is essential. The walk is expected to take between six and eight hours, allowing for breaks and time to enjoy the surroundings.
