Join a river adventure like no other as you paddle down the River Derwent on this full-day guided SUP River Trip. Whether you’re new to stand-up paddleboarding or looking to build on your skills, this trip is perfect for paddlers of all levels. Experience gentle moving water, gain confidence, and enjoy the beautiful countryside, with expert guidance at every step.
The SUP River Trip begins on gentle stretches of the River Derwent, ideal for first-timers to familiarise themselves with their boards. You’ll start by paddling at a comfortable pace, giving you time to develop your balance and techniques. For those new to the sport, it’s completely fine to paddle on your knees or even lie down on the board as you build your confidence.
As you progress, the river flows into sections with slightly more challenging, but manageable, rapids. This is where the real fun begins, allowing you to practice navigating moving water. You’ll also be guided through techniques to help you master small rapids, with your instructor on hand to provide tips and support. Expect to enjoy not only the water but also the surrounding countryside, spotting wildlife like water voles, herons, and kingfishers as you glide down the river.
By the time you reach the end of the journey, you'll be more comfortable on your board and have gained experience in managing rapids, all under the guidance of our expert instructors. This trip is designed to leave you with a sense of achievement and the confidence to tackle even more challenging water.
The River Derwent winds through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the region, offering a peaceful yet exciting environment for stand-up paddleboarding.
The gentle flow of the river makes it an ideal setting for learning or refining your skills, while the surrounding countryside adds an extra layer of enjoyment to your paddling experience. A shuttle bus can be arranged for participants to get from the meeting point to the start.
No previous experience with stand-up paddleboarding is required for this trip, making it an excellent choice for beginners. However, all participants must be able to swim at least 25m for safety reasons.
The trip is suitable for anyone looking to improve their paddleboarding abilities or simply enjoy a scenic day on the river.
