Spain is one of the Mediterranean's great sailing countries. The Balearic Islands — Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera — sit at the heart of it, with reliable summer breezes, hundreds of sheltered calas and a first-rate marina infrastructure, while the Catalan coast around Barcelona and the Costa Brava offers superb cruising and a strong RYA training scene. Warm water, 300 days of sun and a coastline varied enough to reward a lifetime of exploration make Spain a place to learn, charter or simply enjoy a day on the water.
Where to sail
The Balearics are the headline ground: the dramatic north-west coast of Mallorca, the clear waters between Ibiza and Formentera, and the quiet calas of Menorca. The Catalan coast — Barcelona and the Costa Brava — offers accessible marina sailing and RYA courses within easy reach of the city. Together they suit everyone from a first-timer on a day sail to an experienced sailor chartering for a week.
Courses, charters and day sails
Spain's centres run the full RYA pathway and powerboat courses alongside skippered and bareboat charters and relaxed day sails. Skippered trips welcome complete beginners; bareboat charter needs the relevant qualification and experience.
