Challenge yourself to summit Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, with the guidance of an experienced mountain leader. Choose from three different routes, each offering its own level of difficulty and providing a rewarding adventure. Whether you're an experienced hiker or a newcomer, the support and expertise of your guide will ensure your day is both safe and enjoyable.
Wasdale Route
The Wasdale route is the shortest and most popular of the three. This 5.5-mile (8.5 km) hike has a 910m (2985ft) ascent and typically takes 5-6 hours to complete. As you climb, you’ll be treated to dramatic views of the surrounding valley. Your guide will lead you through the route, ensuring you stay on track and manage the terrain effectively. It’s a challenging but rewarding walk with a steady climb to the summit of Scafell Pike. You’ll reach the top with a sense of accomplishment and take in the panoramic views across the Lake District.
Seathwaite Route
The Seathwaite route, also known as the Corridor Route, is slightly longer at 9 miles (12.5 km) with an ascent of 1020m (3340ft). It typically takes 6-7 hours to complete. This route offers a more secluded experience, with dramatic scenery as you follow a winding path up to the summit. The climb here is steeper in places, with rocky sections that may require some extra effort. Your guide will assist you with pacing and technique, ensuring the hike remains manageable. As you near the summit, you’ll be greeted by stunning views of the surrounding fells and valleys.
Langdale Route
The Langdale route is the longest of the three options, covering 12 miles (19 km) and involving an ascent of 1050m (3500ft). This challenging route takes between 9-12 hours, depending on the group’s pace. The Langdale route is ideal for those who are looking for a more strenuous hike, with varying terrain, including steep ascents and rocky paths. Your guide will help you navigate this more demanding route, ensuring that you stay on track while maintaining a steady pace. The reward at the end of this route is the satisfaction of completing a truly testing challenge and the beautiful views from the summit of Scafell Pike.
All starting points are easily accessible by car, with plenty of parking available, and your guide will provide you with specific meeting instructions ahead of the hike.
It’s recommended that you have some hiking experience, especially for the more challenging routes, but the guides will provide full support and guidance. The minimum age for participants is 16 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Mountain Walking prioritises safety, well-being, and enjoyment on all hikes. Each hike is thoroughly risk-assessed, and you will always be accompanied by a qualified leader who has your safety at the core of everything. The personalised support ensures that you get the most from the challenge, leaving with both memories and a sense of achievement.
