Coniston atrae a senderistas y amantes de las actividades al aire libre por su ubicación estratégica, al pie del célebre pico de Cumbria, el Old Man of Coniston, y junto a la orilla occidental de Coniston Water, uno de los lagos más grandes de Inglaterra, con una extensión de 5 millas (8 km).
