During the confined water dives, you will learn basic scuba skills in a safe and controlled environment. These dives are conducted at Spring Lakes, where you will practice skills like buoyancy control, underwater navigation, and basic safety procedures. Our instructors will closely guide and assess your progress, ensuring you're comfortable and confident before moving to open water dives.
The open water dives are a critical part of your training, allowing you to apply what you've learned in real diving conditions. Stoney Cove and Dosthill Quarry offer diverse underwater terrains. You'll encounter different features like wrecks and natural aquatic life, helping you gain experience in various diving scenarios. These sites are chosen for their clear waters and range of depths, suitable for beginner divers.
While a basic level of comfort in water is necessary, you don't need to be an expert swimmer to take this course. The prerequisite is to swim 200m in swimwear, which is not timed. Our instructors are skilled at helping individuals who may not be confident swimmers, ensuring everyone can enjoy and successfully complete the course safely.
The three-month BSAC membership included in your course fee offers several benefits. You'll have access to BSAC's e-learning materials, allowing you to study theory components at your own pace. Additionally, the membership provides you with diving insurance, access to BSAC's diving community, resources, and advice, enhancing your overall diving experience and safety.
The course fee of £525 covers most of what you need, including training, equipment, and e-learning. However, it does not cover personal expenses such as travel to the dive sites, accommodation near Spring Lakes, or personal gear like swimwear and towels.
Upon successful completion of the BSAC Ocean Diver course, you will be certified as a BSAC Ocean Diver. This certification recognises your ability to dive up to a maximum depth of 20 meters with a buddy of the same or higher qualification level. It is an internationally recognised certification, allowing you to dive globally under similar conditions to those you trained in.
The BSAC Ocean Diver certification does not expire. However, if you have not dived for an extended period, it is strongly recommended to take a refresher course. This ensures that your skills and knowledge are up-to-date, which is crucial for your safety and enjoyment while diving.
Absolutely! The BSAC Ocean Diver certification is just the beginning. After obtaining this certification, you can progress to more advanced courses like the BSAC Sports Diver and BSAC Dive Leader courses. These courses offer opportunities to develop more advanced diving skills, experience deeper and more challenging dives, and even move towards professional diving roles.
The duration of the BSAC Ocean Diver course varies based on several factors, including your pace of learning and the scheduling of dives. Typically, the course can be completed within 4 to 5 days of training. This timeframe includes theory lessons, confined water dives, and open water dives.
