We had a great experience, Justin is a brilliant, easy going instructor who explains things clearly and makes it fun, whilst feeling safe. We now feel equipped to head out as a family with our own paddleboard.

Kayaking at Errwood Reservoir is a relaxed way to spend time on the water while taking in one of the quieter corners of the Peak District. Whether you’re after a gentle paddle on flat water or a sociable session with friends, our single and double kayaks offer an easy and stable way to explore the reservoir at your own pace.
No previous experience is required, making this a good option for first-timers as well as those who are already comfortable on the water.
After checking in, you’ll be fitted with a buoyancy aid and given a short safety briefing along with basic paddling guidance. The team will make sure you’re comfortable with the kayak and equipment before you head out onto the reservoir.
Errwood Reservoir offers calm, sheltered water, making it ideal for relaxed paddling. Single kayaks give you full control over speed and direction, while double kayaks are a good option for pairs who want to paddle together or introduce someone new to kayaking.
The session is self-guided, so there’s no set route or instruction once you’re on the water. You’re free to paddle at your own pace, explore the reservoir, stop to take in the views, or simply enjoy being out on the water. With hire options from 30 minutes up to 2 hours, you can choose a short paddle or a longer, more unhurried session.
Errwood Reservoir sits within the Peak District National Park and is surrounded by woodland and open moorland. The setting is quiet and scenic, with minimal boat traffic and no tides or currents, creating a safe and controlled environment for kayaking.
It’s a popular spot for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts, but still feels calm and spacious once you’re on the water.
No previous kayaking experience is needed. Participants should be comfortable around water and able to follow basic safety instructions.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear a buoyancy aid, which is provided as part of the hire.
We aim to make kayaking straightforward and accessible, with quality equipment and clear, friendly support before you get on the water. Our self-guided hire gives you the freedom to paddle without pressure or time constraints beyond your booking slot.
Whether you’re trying kayaking for the first time or just want a peaceful paddle in a beautiful Peak District setting, Errwood Reservoir offers a simple and enjoyable way to get out on the water.

Neil was great…guided us clearly and encouraged us before, during and after. We felt safe and confident due to his presence and had a really enjoyable time. We were a bit nervous at first but are so glad that we did it. What a fantastic experience.
My instructor was Tom, he was extremely good, made us feel safe and the experience very enjoyable. Would definitely use again
