This course covers everything from identifying currents to managing hypothermia and interpreting surf forecasts, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to safely enjoy water activities.
Delivered online, this module allows you to download course material and learn at your own pace about the critical aspects of water safety, including environmental analysis and emergency handling.
Experience real-life scenarios in a controlled environment at various beaches, where you'll apply what you've learned about currents and surf zone safety under expert supervision.
The theory part of the course is accessible online, allowing flexibility and convenience. The practical sessions are conducted at selected beaches around Portrush, Northern Ireland, known for their varying ocean conditions, providing realistic environments for safety training.

With a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, our course is uniquely designed to boost your confidence and competence in the water. This course is ideal for sea swimmers, beginner surfers, and anyone interested in enhancing their understanding and skills in ocean and beach safety.
The practical session involves going to several different beaches where participants can apply the theories learned by analysing the surf/swim zone and experiencing a real rip current under guided supervision.
The theory content is available to download online. You can download these materials and complete this part of the course at your own conveniance, and split it into manageable chunks if you wish.
Safety is our top priority. All practical sessions are supervised by certified beach lifeguards and swim/surf instructors. Safety gear and first aid are always on hand, and the locations chosen for practice are evaluated for safety conditions.
While there is no formal certification, participants will receive acknowledgment of completion, and they will leave the course with increased knowledge and skills to safely enjoy and respect the ocean environment. This knowledge greatly enhances personal safety and the safety of others while engaging in beach and ocean activities.
