Experience freediving with our full-day introductory course, designed for ocean lovers and those curious about this meditative and challenging sport. Whether you’re a complete beginner, a snorkeler, or someone who has dabbled in freediving or spearfishing, this course will enhance your skills and deepen your understanding of freediving techniques.
The course is held in a combination of classroom settings, pool, and open water locations, all selected to provide the best conditions for learning and safety. We will meet at the Portrush Atlantic Hotel.
Participants must be at least 12 years old with a moderate level of fitness. Comfort in water is essential, as the course includes extended periods of physical activity in the water.
Our Intro to Freediving course is tailored to provide a thorough introduction to the sport in a safe, supportive, and educational environment. Our instructors are passionate experts committed to teaching the fundamental skills and safety aspects of freediving. With small class sizes and high-quality equipment, our course is designed to help you progress confidently in your freediving journey. You should bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, a water bottle, and a light lunch or snacks for the day. Although all necessary freediving equipment is provided, you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
No prior experience in freediving is required. Our course is designed for complete beginners as well as those with some experience in snorkeling or spearfishing who wish to learn proper techniques and safety practices.
A moderate level of fitness is required due to the physical nature of freediving. Participants should be comfortable in water and able to handle physical activity for the duration of an 8-hour course.
The course begins with breathing exercises and theory in the morning, followed by a practical session in confined water. After a lunch break, more theory is discussed before moving to a second practical session in open water. The course typically runs from 9 am to 5 pm.
Yes, an optional pool freediving certification exam is available at the end of the course for an additional fee of £35. Please specify if you are interested in certification when booking.
